Handwoven art piece I volunteered to make for the grassroots organisation #VærdigPsykiatriForAlle. The hashtag movement’s name literally translates into “a dignified psychiatric system for all”. In Denmark we pride ourselves of the social welfare system, that has been built up through generations. But the last 20 years or so, the amount of social security you could expect here, has slowly been diminishing.

The art piece is inspired by the Danish flag and is woven with letters letters, that were written by people from the movement. Before I shredded the letters and wove them into the Danish flag, they were all scanned and made into a book. What set this group apart, is how they came together across both professionals, patients and their relatives to demand change. To me, this is what Denmark is all about – a strong wellfare system and having solidarity with the people who need a little help.
